
Kahekili invades O`ahu, conquers Kahahana in the battle at Kaheiki, and assumes the sovereignty of O`ahu.
In the war of Kauaawa, Kamehameha fights Keawema`uhili of Hilo, at Pua`aloa near Panaewa. Kamehameha is defeated and retreats to Laupahoehoe.
Following an attack on his person, Kamehameha establishes Mamalahoa Kanawai (law of the broken paddle) to protect the weak, young, aged, helpless, travelers and all those in need, including the concept of amnesty and non-retribution.
